Torre del Reloj

1756

  • One of the main meeting points of Cartagena, ‘la Torre Del Reloj’  or the Clock Tower is the perfect way to start your tour throughout the historic center of Cartagena. Built in the nineteenth century, the Clock Tower is one of the main entrances into the walled city, and is well known among all of the locals.

It has become an icon of the city of Cartagena, and if you find yourself in the city, a picture of the Clock Tower is an essential item to have before the end of your trip. It is recognized worldwide as one of the most beautiful and picturesque clock towers around the world.

It stays true to the beautiful colonial architecture that is so emblematic of the city, and although it has undergone certain remodelling for the purposes of conservation, it still maintains its majestic and picturesque qualities.

Whether it’s to take a picture, or to get some shade under the arches of the Clock Tower, a visit to this touristic site will not disappoint. Under its arches, vendors are always found selling artisanal crafts and books. Walk through to the other side, and find yourself inside the historic center, looking straight at the ‘portal de los dulces.’ No matter what side of the Clock Tower you are on, there is always something beautiful to appreciate.
